Will Avatar sweep the Oscars?

Posted by VicHD - March 2nd, 2010

Personally, I have nothing against James Cameron. As a matter of fact, I have a lot of respect for his work. From The Terminator to Titanic (even though I hated the annoying teenie boppers that went crazy over DiCaprio at the time, but I got over that).

But when it comes to Avatar,I was slightly disappointed with it. Yeah I saw the movie. Sure, the visuals are great, the characters are interesting, yet sometimes cliché, but the story itself didn't feel very original. Story-wise It's basically "Dances With Wolves" in space. It didn't feel that mind blowing to me like his previous films did. Hell, one scene of the movie, the sky mountain scene, felt like it came out of one of the recent Final Fantasy games(Don't know which cause I'm not a huge fan of the series).

Plus, the use of Michelle Rodriguez as a stereotypical tomboyish officer/army brat felt tiring. She already did that in previous films like S.W.A.T. and Resident Evil for God sakes and it feels like she's playing the same character over and over again. Sam Worthington, on the other hand, is really making a name for himself these days and I liked his performance as Jake Sully in the film. I'm surprised he wasn't nominated for an Oscar yet. I really look forward to seeing more of his movies.

All nitpicking aside, I wouldn't be surprised if Avatar wins all 9 Academy Awards. Supposedly, lightning can't strike the same place twice. But when it comes to James Cameron, he can make that happen somehow, someway...who knows?

That's just a maybe. Sometimes facts can be based on opinions, although facts are just as mindless as opinions. Overall, you make good reasonings.

my god at least someone else thinks the same as me

you forgot that he made "Aliens", that was really Epic

Avatar was a good Movie but inst the best of he´s portfolio, My favorite will be always Terminator 2.... PUT THAT COKKIE DOWN!!!!!!!!!

De verdad tengo q admitir q nunca vi las peliculas de Alien, pero si jugue Alien 3 en el SNES

Terminator 2 siempre sera la mejor pelicula de Cameron.

I agree with you except about the characters which I thought were bland most of the time. I especially hated Colonel Miles Quaritch.

Colonel Miles Quaritch? Did you Mean: "Major Chip Hazard" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Hear hear.

Also, great job slipping that latest submission by us with no mention. XD

Also, why has 4 swords 7 been at 92% for a few weeks now? I end up checking it every day and you were flying forward lately. Don't tell me you're gonna try and sneak that one in as well?

The reason why FSM 7 is still at 92% is because Osuka is stll working on his part for the episode and I'm waiting on him to finish whatever is left. Give it time.

As for sneaking the flash into the portal, I'm known for doing that. I want to keep it as a surprise. :P

I honestly thought Avatar was a great movie. (Although it was more like Pocahontas rather than Dances with Wolves) However... It's far from worthy of all nine awards. I'd say it's lucky if it gets five.

I suggest you to see "Alien" and "Aliens (Alien 2)"

The 1st one is really good, but the second is freaking awesome

yeah, I wasn't a fan of the movie either, but apparently JC designed a lot of the CGI equipment for the very purpose of making a live action adaptation of Battle Angel Alita, which is an excellent manga series. So I don't really feel like I can bitch too much when I know what's in store from him. Any really judging I do will be based on that, since Avatar was just another pretty movie to me.

Yeah Aliens is awsome and i have the whole quadrilogy XD

I'm just gonna summarize my thoughts on Avatar in a nutshell: it's average, but I've seen better films.

i agree with you fully, but people are going over board with this movie (yes, much, much more then twilight (ugh, mentioning that movie makes me shudder) yet,its still a good movie),its very creative, but my favourate movie is still

*drum roll*

TRANSFORMERS 2;REVENGE OF THE FALLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO ON,YE GOOD THING!!!!!!

PS: looking foward to more projects (maybe mortal kombat mishaps platinum)

hello, I see that is still 92%? Sorry, but I'm not good at English.
