Internet Censorship, WTF?

Posted by VicHD - May 6th, 2012

First SOPA/PIPA gets shoved down our throats, now CISPA is popping up. Why do Govermnents have to insist on rubbing their noses on the internet? The internet isn't made for the Government, it's made for THE PEOPLE.

I understand that Internet Piracy and Copyright Infringement is one thing, but that doesn't mean that you have to restrict freedom of speech and rights to privacy from millions of users. From what I understood, the internet is supposed to be a free interactive communications tool, and when I say free, I mean with Free speech. To be able to do and say things you wouldn't normally do or say in society. Now slowly, each country is developing their "Big Brother" concept more and more. Spying on us 24/7 to see if we are breaking the law in some way or form. Sadly, our rights and freedom of speech are diminishing year by year. Not just in the US, but in most parts of the world.

Do you agree on CISPA? Do you agree on the thought of the FBI, CIA, INTERPOL or any authority figure monitoring your every move waiting to strike not because you're a terrorist, but because of Copyright infringement? if that's the case, then arrest the entire world for illegally downloading and streaming, music, games and movies and not just Kim DotCom for offering the Megaupload and it was shut down immediately after the SOPA protests.

I'm not that into politics really, but I'm against CISPA and Internet censorship.
The internet is for everyone.

"The internet isn't made for the Government, it's made for THE PEOPLE." I have to disagree with this. Internet was first created for the US military and government. Without those 2 then we would not have the internet today we see.

when you think about it, a lot of things have their roots to the military. from toys to cars to electronic devices. but once it's open to the public, it shouldn't be restricted.

NorskeDrittsekk, he didn't say "made by" he said "made for".

Starting debates on here is going to be very lame so I am going to cut this short.

The internet is always to be in the hands of the government. It is never invented and intended for 'the people'. As a computer expert I look at the internet in different way. A deeper look at its darkness.

Have you ever wondered why would simple and easy SQL languages can't be secure? How ads companies scoop your data? How most ads database intercepted by at least a few of goverment links?

All these are just the tip of the iceberg. Useless to fight on if you do not know why.

I respect ypur opinion, though regular users don't look at it the same way. Some of them still want to fight that war, even if it is useless to win it.

Well, it's the government, they think that they can do whatever the fuck they want and that no one is going to stop them. Obama says that if the bill passes Congress (which the bill passed the house not too long ago...shit) then he'll veto it. To be honest, it will probably be the only smart decision he would make since he took office in my opinion.

You might find this interesting. This was originally for SOPA and ACTA, but it's basically the same deal here: http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=WJIuYgIvKsc

The internet was the last thing the people had control of and now THIS SHIT?! angrey face >:(

I agree with you.

Don't forget the LLERAS in Colombia (though is not "active" yet). Still it's just annoying, people that download a picture of anything with copyright deserves more years in prison than a murderer? You gotta be kidding me!

I only see the whole ciry taking "control" of everything here.

Do you still work on Ep.8?

A rather off topic question, but yes.

I apologize in advance for this rant.

I'm also against all this stuff, they're going about it the wrong way. If you want to stop piracy and copyright infringement, improve and enhance copy protection and track the source and arrest them. I also understand that any kind of copy protection can be circumvented in some way or another but it can be diminshed greatly without severly hindering the internet. Regarding CISPA and the government watching peoples every move, the government has probably been watching us without permission for decades, but there's probably no way to prove it. Kind of reminds me of this new show called Person of Interest, which is entirely fictional but very possible (a machine created that has acess to all internet connected technology and is monitored for terrorist activity and discards every other detail). Basically what I'm saying is while the government isn't actively monitoring our internet usage, everything on the internet is trackable and can be accesed by them if they need that kind of information for finding criminals or terrorists. It seems with CISPA they would just skip the step of getting permission and already have acess. Even though this could help bring justice to the internet quicker, it also means the government has acess to everything people do on the internet, whether or not you're a criminal.

I apologize once again for such a long rant, but this kind of stuff really makes you think about how the government is paying attention to the people, are they even taking the populous's opinions into consideration before creating bill after bill trying to combat piracy and copyright infringement? And it's not just the U.S. either, this stuff is happening everywhere.

Pardon my language, but FUCK THAT SHIT! We do not need big brother breathing down our necks to make sure we're good little drones. And one of the first things I saw when I looked at the CISPA page was that they would be sharing the information with technology and manufacturing companies. Why? In my opinion, because these companies want our user information so they can sell us more shit. And the gov't keeps trying to crush our rights and freedom under these bullshit laws like SOPA, and now CISPA. No.

if you ask me, they should be looking at bad websites that dosen't include free downloading.i think thats the main reason for those things like sopa.THE INTERNET IS A FREAKIN PLAYGROUND!!!!you can play, talk, and look on it.thats thing that ticks me off.

I don't understand all the political or government talk, but from what I understand of this I'm there with you. It's completely stupid and useless. Why does the government feel like they always have to do something like this? It's not right or even fair!

The government can really piss you off, can't it? I completely agree with your standpoint, this is our own little world, where people can do pretty much anything. No one has the right to limit our imagination.

The problem is they only look for the negatives of the net to get rid of, completely ignoring the positives that will be affected. Plus just one of those bills will cause complete anarchy. I'm not joking, they have that potential!

(Sorry for the language) Oh, you have to be fucking kidding me!!

Seriously! Who are those pricks trying to do this crap? Are they maybe the same people who are just wearing disguises to look like someone else so they can keep trying to destroy the internet?

Megavideo is gone, Megaupload is gone (Although, I'm not a pirate) and if they somehow do the same thing to other great sites like Newgrounds and Youtube... Well, I don't know what I would do.

But for facebook, I couldn't care less. At least then, my mom would need to find another place to spend 99% of her days.
