THIS IS BULLSHIT!

Posted by VicHD - March 12th, 2010

OK, I'm not one to post on the front page very often but I have to point something out that's been happening last week in my country.

For those who aren't aware, Venezuela (the country where I currently live in) has officially started outlawing violent video games. In other words, any game that's considered aggressive, violent and/or gory are now going to be banned over here. I'm dead serious! Click here and here to read all about it.

They've been debating over this new law about as early as September of 2009. Basically the Venezuelan government is doing this to "tone down the violence in the streets" and whoever is caught selling these games will get fined and will be put to jail for at least 4 years.

Most criminals who live in the slums of Caracas are too poor to even afford these types of games or consoles, so I don't see much logic in this. Plus, attacking one source isn't going to stop the violence. Video games are not entirely the problem here. Violent movies, Violent TV shows, Violent/hateful music (to a certain extent) and domestic violence are some of the several issues that lead to this type of stuff. I'm no criminologist, but I don't think this is going to solve the issue of high crime and death rates over here. What we need is gun control instead! Why can't they understand that?

Anyway, now because of this new law, games like Call of Duty, Halo, GTA, fighting games in general and even possibly your typical Mario game, as ridiculous as it may sound, are going to be banned here! I may be stretching things by adding a Mario game as an example, but either way, I'm showing you guys how absurd and how fucking unfair this is for us gamers over here.

I'm no politician, but I'm completely against this move. Next thing you know, they're probably going to ban internet connections here, knowing how fucked up this country is these days. I really need to move out of this country someday.

This is just bullshit...nuff said.

Lets wage war on this treachery... wait a minute.

YOU ARE FUCKING RIGHT DEATH TO THE ANTI VIDEOGAME LAWS

Maybe it could happen here, in America, too. Anyway video games? Seriously? What the heck is that logic? I'm sure poverty has caused way more problems than Call of Duty ever did.

Yeah, this is so fucked up.

It doesn't strike me as a surprise. Probably most of the people in your government are worried sick parents of what their children are influenced by. This is probably gonna strike some of the major countries next (not saying that Venezuela isn't a major country). They should make it limited to where the games are aloud to be bought by 16 year olds and up.

WHOEVER MADE THIS LAW IS THE MOST STUPID SON OF A BITCH EVER!!! I'm super serial.

Wow, that IS stupid!

What the fuck is wrong with Chavez? I mean even in here Mexico we know how much of an ignorant mother-fucker he is, for the love of shit we need to bring this ignorant dictator down...

-Kill Chavez

I sympathize, sounds like a case of the Michael Atkinson disease.

That is the third most messed up law I've ever heard of. Well, It's not like they're tracking what you play on your console. You can probably get it from Ebay or have someone mail it to you. What are they gonna do, open your mail?

You should riot in the street and prove you guys are maniacs even without video games.

No worries, just pirate.

I mean ... become a political activist, form a PAC, do fundraisers, then picket capitol hill, etc.

I know. i'm also from Venezuela and I just wanna shot Chavez dead!!!! All the good games these days are violent!!!!!

You speak english really well for what seems to be a non-native speaker.

Politicians will never understand videogames because they never play them

I lived in Florida during most of my childhood, which explains why I speak English so fluently. I returned to Venezuela in 1999 due to family issues and I've been living here ever since.

I'm not very good with politics but I do know what I consider right and wrong in this world.

indeed bullshit

It's cool, once the crime rate starts increasing, the ban will be lifted.

Jesus thats just downright stupid, they worry about video games when they should really focus on bringing down the crime rate and help public schools i mean really? they might as well ban movie theaters and the internet.

lmfao

WTF? That's just crazy!

Ah dude, that's bad. Try to cheer up, you'll always have Newgrounds and the Internet to provide you with unlimited amounts of videogame violence.

hablo espanol?
